From 5 to 6 October 2023, the OpenPass4Climate consortium met in Novara (Italy) for the third training session (C3), hosted by CSCI at Hotel Tornielli. This milestone event brought together representatives from UniLaSalle, NOVA University Lisbon, CSCI, and the University of Valladolid to advance the design of the Open Badge system at the core of the project’s WP4/PR3.
Throughout the three-day training, partners worked intensively on shaping the technical and pedagogical structure of the future Open Badge for Climate Collection, building directly on the results of WP2 (mapping of eco-pedagogical activities) and WP3 (assessment of learners’ climate engagement). Sessions focused on:
defining the 13-badge architecture, including the rules for acquisition, validation, and revocation;
integrating action, learning and hybrid activities within badge criteria;
developing a “super badge” requiring achievements across the four GreenComp areas;
preparing technical tutorials and a ready-to-use Moodle template to support adoption by universities;
agreeing on evidence requirements, including on-site and online climate actions;
planning stakeholder involvement for the upcoming co-design workshops.
Partners also reviewed the final deliverables of PR1 (116 eco-pedagogical activities mapped, learning path hypotheses, and analysis of strengths/weaknesses) and aligned next steps regarding dissemination and the transition toward WP4.
The C3 training marked a major step in moving from analysis to system design, ensuring that the OP4C Open Badge framework will be both robust, interoperable and adaptable for European higher education institutions.
